Dobbie & the shopping list: simple but essential
How Dobbie manages the shopping list for the whole family, from 'add it' to 'what's on it'.
Of everything Dobbie does, the shopping list is probably the most everyday feature. Small, but essential. 🧦
How does it work?
One file, one list. Everyone in the family can send messages via Telegram:
- "Add chicken spices" and it's on there.
- "What's on the list?" and Dobbie reads it out.
- "Remove the milk" and it's gone.
Dobbie always reads the file fresh before every answer. No stale info from memory, always the actual current state.
Why this is useful
The list is shared. If Mieke adds something via Telegram, Frederik sees it immediately when he asks what's on it. No separate notes, no forgotten post-its on the fridge.
Technical
The list lives as a markdown file in Dobbie's workspace on the Raspberry Pi. Simple and reliable. No database, no sync issues, just a file that's always up to date.
Small but mighty. A bit like Dobbie itself. 🧦
